DON’T Do Any of This in the New Year Unless . . .
So, here we are… a New Year, a new chance.
Over these last few days, my inbox has been flooded with messages about setting New Year’s resolutions, starting fresh, and all of that.
Honestly, I’m tired of those messages because the brutal reality is that all of the excitement for a new year is very short lived.
As most of the world is dreaming big dreams for 2021, my recommendation is:
Don’t set any goals.
Don’t make any resolutions.
Don’t make any plans.
Don’t join any gyms.
Don’t go on a diet.
Don’t start any new training.
You are seriously committed. And I mean, life or death serious.
Oh, I know…You SAY you are committed (now).
But you’ve also said that (many times) before. Am I right?
And yet, here you are.
So, get real. What’s going to be different this time?
You’ve heard the definition of commitment before: Doing the thing, you said you were going to do, long after the mood you said it in, has left you.

Benjamin Hardy also wrote an amazing article about commitment called the 100% commitment rule that makes life a lot easier.
What are you going to rely on in 2021 when:
> Your mood changes?
> You lose motivation?
>You get busy with your season?
> The inevitable drift happens?
Hey, it’s not your fault.
It’s part of the human condition.
Humans suck at sticking with anything.
Discipline & commitment by willpower will fail… Every time, over time.
This is why nearly 100% fail on their resolutions. Why nearly 100% don’t achieve the goals they want.
So, this begs the question… What do you do to hack this human weakness? How do you create a workaround for this defect?
I believe you need THREE THINGS:
1- EXTERNAL FORCE.
Newton’s first law taught us: We will remain at rest unless compelled to change by the action of an external force.
This is why people hire personal trainers, coaches, tutors, counselors, and therapists.
You need an outside force to break your inertia. Our natural tendency of excuses and procrastination.
2- A SYSTEM.
A proven, step-by-step system to make the big & complicated, simple & easy – if you just follow.
You want to remove decision making and the need for discipline from the process.
A group of like-mind & like-ambition allies going in the same direction to spur you on & hold you accountable.
