What To Do If You Are Too Busy To Make Progress

Mar 28, 2022

I just posted last week on twitter one of my most favorite productivity quotes of all time. Here it is-

“Being busy is a form of laziness – lazy thinking and indiscriminate action. Being selective -doing less – is the path of the productive. Lack of time is actually a lack of priorities.”

-Tim Ferriss, author of the 4-Hour Workweek.

When I first read this quote about 8 years ago now while ready the 4-Hour Workweek, it was a big slap in the face wake up call for me.

There have been many, many times throughout my career when I felt really busy. When this was the case, I would rate my stress levels as an 8/9 out of 10, and the feeling like I was making progress with the work I was doing about a 4 out of 10.

Have you ever felt this way? I’m not sure if at this point in your career you need the same wake up call that I did.

If you do, I want to share with you what my mentor/coach shared with me that was very helpful. I wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget it and always refer back to it when I start to feel “busy” again.

The first HUGE step you need to take if you haven’t done so already is to own your agenda, dammit!

We have become so horrible and wimpy in letting other people set the agenda of our day, our life, and our moment to moment experiences as if we are passengers on the train of life instead of being the conductor.

You must take back where are you going, what are you doing, how are you managing your day. Do not let others mess with your agenda, EVER.

People say to me that that is really hard, I have no assistants, I have 2 kids, I have to also teach classes . . . I get that, but you still own the agenda.

Your agenda is where you are going with your program and on your agenda are the things you need to do to progress your program forward.

Doing things that will progress you in your program and your focus needs to get under tighter control.

There is more to it but hopefully you get the idea.

Taking action on that advice got me the results I wanted and is what lead me to creating Busy Coach.

I hope that you see that once a week through this newsletter, and every day on social media I am putting out content in an effort to teach you how to take back the agenda of your day. I want to show you how to think about your day so you don’t get sucked into all of that unimportant crap that makes you feel busy because you weren’t really thinking about your day at all.

I really appreciate those of you who have been giving me insight as to other areas of running your program that you want more help with. Please keep emailing me your suggestions or feedback to [email protected].

PLEASE HELP! Would any of you be kind enough to get on the phone with me for 30 minutes this week or next week so I can ask you some questions? I’m looking to continue to improve and provide quality information that will continue to help you reach your goals and get you home to your family sooner? You can schedule a call with me through this link. http://www.meetme.so/mandygreen

Thank you for continuing to read this newsletter. I really appreciate your feedback and support.
