Speed Wins: What High-Performing Coaches Do Differently
Apr 03, 2025
We all have areas where we need to move faster in life.
Maybe you’re like I was six years ago — stuck in a loop and needing to move faster to build the kind of program you actually want to lead.
Maybe you need to move faster and fix your staff — letting go of the assistant who’s just “okay” and finally hiring someone who can actually help you win on and off the field.
Or maybe you need to finally...
- Restructure your calendar so you’re not working 80-hour weeks
- Delegate more to your staff instead of doing everything yourself
- Build the recruiting pipeline that fills itself
- Put systems in place for your admin work
- Step fully into the head coach role — and out of the daily grind
We all get stuck.
But here’s the thing...
Coaches know what they need to do most of the time.
It’s not a knowledge problem.
It’s an action problem.
The comfort zone of “my team is fine” or “this is just how it is” slows us down.
Or the fear of “what happens if I shake things up?” keeps us stuck with the same mediocre results.
But the truth is...
No matter how solid things look today, it can all fall apart tomorrow — a surprise injury, a key player transfer, admin pressure, or your job on the line.
Memento Mori.
As leaders, it’s our job to remember that time is not promised. And to act like it.
For example, when it comes to building a program that lasts...
It’s easy to say “Winning isn’t everything” and stay in survival mode year after year.
But let me be real with you:
You can NEVER invest too much in your program, your leadership, and your systems.
Those are the tools that give you breathing room — and freedom.
That’s what allowed a head coach I work with to finally step away from the 12-hour grind and focus on culture and recruiting — and then win the conference championship the next year.
Imagine being able to spend more time with your family during the season...
Or walk into the office knowing your staff actually has things handled...
Or take a vacation without dreading your inbox.
These moments will come — and if you're not ready for them, you'll miss your shot.
Now here’s the issue...
Most coaches know they need to fix the culture, delegate better, or stop doing every last thing themselves.
But they don’t internalize it. It’s not urgent — until it is.
High-performing coaches? They move faster.
That’s YOU.
We’ve got to treat pace like it matters.
That’s why I say...
Success Loves Speed. Delay Kills Seasons.
I don’t know what your exact situation is…
Maybe it’s staff.
Maybe it’s recruiting.
Maybe it’s delegation.
Maybe it’s burnout.
But I do know this:
There’s a coach out there who was in your shoes and fixed it in half the time you’ve been thinking about it.
You can move faster.
But you need pace-setters.
You need to be around other coaches and leaders who are moving 3X faster than you — and doing it with less stress, not more.
That’s what I’ve helped coaches do — and what I can help you do too.
And if you’re not surrounded by those pace-setters right now…
You need fast-moving voices in your head at all times.
For me, that’s podcasts, books, mentors, masterminds — whatever keeps my mind in motion.
Here are a few that helped shift my mindset:
- Relentless – Tim Grover
- 10x is Easier Than 2X– Benjamin Hardy
- The Compound Effect – Darren Hardy
- Winning – Tim Grover
- Can’t Hurt Me – David Goggins
Bottom line:
You can — and MUST — start leading your program from a higher gear.
Do whatever it takes to make that shift. Don’t look back.
You’ll be glad you did.
Success Loves Speed,
Mandy Green
