This is a way to give a recruit a good understanding of who you are beyond your sport before they even come to campus

A Simple and Fun Social Media Strategy That Will Help Your Recruiting

Hi Coach,

I had 20-30 minutes to kill in the car yesterday on my way into the gym.  My drive time is when I get to listen to great podcasts (unless my daughter comes with and steals my phone).

Yesterday, I listened to Russell Brunson’s I love Marketing Podcast.  He shared something that I am absolutely going to try and I thought I would pass the idea onto you.

He was talking about a JK5 (JK=Jenna Kutcher who is an amazing marketer) Method framework for how to post on social media.

To implement the JK5 Method, you first need to create five main categories of things that make up what your program is about. Think about the culture you have, your values, your method of operation, the personality of your team and staff, etc.  These are things that a recruit only gets a feel for when they are on campus and is a big part of what separates your program from everybody else.

For Jenna, her five categories are marriage, body positivity, photography, fashion, and travel.  If you scroll through her profile, you’ll notice that she cycles through these categories.  As I am creating my categories, I thought about the things most important to me that I wanted to share with the world.  The categories I came up with for my brand were family, personal development, productivity, recruiting, and systems.

Now with your 5 categories, as you post images throughout the week, you simply rotate through these categories so your followers get a good understanding of who you are beyond your sport before they even come to campus.

For example:

Monday=Your sport

Tuesday=Culture

Wednesday=What is your team like personality wise

Thursday=Day in the life of an athlete

Friday=Campus/City atmosphere

For most coaches social media pages that I look at, it just seems very one dimensional.  Everything is about their sport and that is boring.  When I just see the sport pictures, it wouldn’t be enough to keep me there for very long.

When someone lands on your page, they have about 10 seconds to make a decision on whether or not they want to follow you, and so we want this overall grid of pictures they see to create connection right off the bat.

What I love about the JK5 method is that will give your recruits an overarching view of your “brand” when they click to see your profile.  If you truly follow the five-category rotation, recruits will get that inside look as to what it is really like to compete for you in your program.  I think that is huge, especially now that recruits can’t be on your campus to visit.

Stay safe and healthy!
