How to Dominate your Days, Weeks, Months, and Year
If I am being honest, I hesitate to share this first part with you. I don’t really share things about my personal life through this newsletter, but I thought it might be helpful for you. Here it goes . . For a good amount of the last 8 years, I felt like I was in survival mode and was living my life reactively. I would wake up and immediately check my smart phone and start reacting to what had come in since I last checked. I would get up at the same time as my kids so I always felt rushed and busy immediately upon waking up. My whole day, and honestly, my whole life reflected how I used to wake up. Consequently, my health and relationships were suffering. My overall happiness and well-being were lacking, and I knew that I was not living up to my highest values and goals.
Not sure if any of you can relate but it is what it is.
It has now been a year since I made the decision to never feel that way again. I chose to take action and get out of survival mode.
I want to share with you the action I take on a routine basis that I feel is a LARGE part of what is making me feel more successful day by day.
It all started by being intentional with my morning routine. I am now giving myself space in the morning to orient myself with the person I intend to be. I also orient myself toward my highest goals and priorities. With a consistent morning routine, my life is very different than it was even 6 months ago. No longer and I rushed and reactive. Now I am living with intention and purpose.
When I wake up between 5:30-6am, I drink a glass of water, get my protein shake and coffee, pray, mediate, journal, write down my goals, establish my priorities, and then I read for about 15 minutes.
I keep a dry erase marker in my office and I consistently write down different ideas, goals, reminders, and missions for the day. Then, when I walk into my office, I am reminded of my goals and what I am working to become. When I look in the mirror, I see who I am working to become and not just who I am.
If I want more, I must become more. If I want to look different, have a different $ amount in my bank account, or get different results, I must ACT differently and think differently. This is part of what I am trying to do for myself at the moment to change the trajectory of my life.
If this resonates with you, I suggest that you get a dry erase marker and start writing down your new thought processes, your goals, your vision on your mirror or on a whiteboard so YOU can start to see who YOU are working to become. You become what you see and what you surround yourself with on a daily basis. By writing down what you want to achieve, how you want to think, or who you want to become, you dramatically increase your chance at success.
My marker is green for (Green lights, for more on this see What Drives Winning and Becky Burleigh), and I have written down the following currently:
- My target body weight.
- The income I want to generate this month and this year.
- The date I want to achieve financial security and have all of my expenses covered with interest paid from my investments. For a great financial advisor, please call Matt Daniels (former Marshall Women’s Basketball Coach). 870-847-7542 is his cell and he would love to help.
- A reminder that if I want different results I must act differently.
- And a reminder to DOMINATE THE DAY by planning my day the night before.
In the next 48 hours, get a dry erase marker and get to work on yourself. It is the single greatest investment you can make because the more you become, the more you can help others to become more.
By changing my mornings with these simple things, I am almost embarrassed as to the person I used to be a year ago. I am helping thousands of more coaches than I ever did, I am 10x more productive than I have ever been but more importantly, I am working through my day with more courage, determination, and the will to be the person I was meant to be.
