Achieve Greatness by Writing Down Your Goals

At this time of year, now that the school year is over, I have a lot of coaches reaching out to me because they are looking for advice on how to achieve bigger and better things for the upcoming new year/season.

One of the first questions I ask is how often they write down their goals and then track their daily behavior.

Every successful man or woman that I have ever talked to or read about has come to pretty much the same conclusion- that they cannot believe how fast their lives began to improve by setting goals on a daily basis.

“A dream is just a dream.  A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.” Harvey Mackay

Coach, first, do you set goals? Two, how do you plan, schedule, and align your daily activities so you can accomplish them?

Goal setting is simple to do. 99% of coaches go through the process with their team every year.  But, most people flatly refuse to keep a written list of their personal, professional, or health goals.  This is surprising because this list can take just 2-3 hours a month to complete.  A small price to pay for finding the success you’ve always wanted, right??

Start by making a quick list 5 reasons that would prevent you from keeping a goal list that you update monthly, weekly, and daily.

What could you do to make sure you keep your goal list and avoid the reasons you listed above?  List another 5 things.

Take action:  This week, buy yourself a notebook that you’ll use exclusively to write down your monthly, weekly, and daily goals.

At the start of every month, take 15 minutes and write out your goals for the month.

One time a week (I like Sunday), evaluate how you did and map out where you will block off time to work on your goals throughout the week.  If time to work on your goals is not blocked off, you will never work on them.

Every morning then, take three to five minutes to write out your top goals in the present tense. Be sure to include goals for every area of your life: professional, personal, health, and financial.

By writing out your goals at the beginning of each day, you will program them deep into your subconscious mind. Goal setting will activate your mental powers. It will stimulate your mind and make you more alert. Throughout the day, you will see opportunities and possibilities to move more rapidly toward your goals.  Then as always, take massive action!!

Have a great week.
