Mid-Year Review: 179 Days Left to Finish 2024 Strong!

Can you believe we’re halfway through the year? It has flown by already! But it’s not over yet. Far from it. As of today, we have 178 days left in 2024—what do you want to accomplish by the end of December? 

  

It’s easy to feel discouraged if this year hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. Do they ever? Personally, this year has been anything other than what I expected. 

  • Club soccer took up way too much time. 
  • I developed severe tennis elbow in both arms so couldn’t work out as much as I usually do. 
  • We learned my parents were getting scammed and almost lost their house. 

  

Consequently, some of my goals have gotten delayed. Maybe yours too! 

  

Thankfully, life going perfectly and according to plan is not a prerequisite for achievement. And with 176 days left to go, we’ve all got plenty of time to hit almost any goal we set. 

  

For example: 

  • If you lost 1.5 lbs a week for the remaining 21 weeks of the year, that’s 39 lbs by the end of the year. 
  • It’s also enough time to get the majority of your blood markers in the normal range through diet and exercise. 
  • Maybe you want to finish up your 2025 recruiting class—totally doable in 6 months. 
  • Maybe you’ve had an idea for a side hustle rattling around in your imagination for years. Six months is more than enough time to get side hustle off the ground (and, perhaps, even making significant monthly revenue). 

We still have 6 months to accomplish big things so stay on the field until the whistle blows.  The game isn’t over yet!! That’s exactly what I’m going to do, and I hope you’ll join me! 

Time for a mid-year checkup. So, how do we get started? 

I completed mine a few weekends ago, before the start of July. Here are the steps I took. 

Conducting Your Mid-Year Review 

  1. List Your Wins: Start by celebrating your successes. It’s so easy to skip this step and completely overlook the successes we’ve had. Given our brain’s natural negativity bias, it’s critical that we itemize our wins so we have the confidence we need to perform at our best in the months to come. 
  2. Review your game film to reflect on your progress: The point of watching your game film is to learn from the first half of the year—to take stock of what happened so you can plan or perform differently for the rest of the year. 
    • How far did you get on your goals? 
    • What worked and what didn’t? 
    • What will you keep, do more of, do less of, start, or stop doing? 
  3. Assess your well-being in these areas: body, mind, spirit, love, family, community, money, work, and hobbies.  Identify areas needing attention and adjust your priorities accordingly. 
  4. Revise Annual Goals: The key reason goals fail is that we lose track of them. I recommend reviewing your goals every week.   At this point in the year, are the goals you set in January still relevant? Make necessary adjustments or recommit to them. 
  5. Review Your Plan for the next 90 days: Look ahead and map out key dates, deadlines, and commitments. Stephen Covey talked about taking care of the big rocks first. I like to look ahead at everything I’m committed to in the next 90 days—practices, games, conferences, major meetings, promotions, trips, birthdays, all of it. I don’t want to be caught by surprise. By mapping out key dates, deadlines, and commitments, we can visualize the next 90 days and ensure we’re prepared for what’s coming. 
  6. Review Your Ideal Week. Mapping out your ideal week ensures you can maximize the time we all get each week 168 hours. But while we all have the same time, we don’t all have the same lives. Everyone’s schedule is different—but here’s the part we sometimes forget: Our own schedule is different from season to season. Now’s the time to reflect on our priorities and decide how we want to spend our time this season. 
  7. Review Your Daily Habits. Speaking of seasons, summer is here, and that means my daily schedule is also different: kids home from school being just the start of it. Here’s the time to reevaluate our morning and evening routines. Are they supporting your goals and well-being? Small tweaks can make a big difference in experiencing success at home and as a coach. 

 

Now’s the Time! 

 

You never know what you can accomplish if there’s still time on the clock. And this year is only half over! If you haven’t set any goals yet for this year, now’s the perfect time to do so. You can transform your life in six short months. What do you want for your future? 

  

As we enter the second half of the year, let’s commit to staying focused and intentional. Remember, you have the power to create a balanced, meaningful life pursuing the goals that matter most to you. You’ve got what it takes—including all the time you need. 

  

Let’s make the next 178 days count!
