Find Family Time During Your Busy Season | 3 Mistakes You Don’t Have to Make

 Hey there, coach!

The #1 question I got this week: “How do I get home and spend more quality time with my family.”

Coach, I know you love your job and most of the players you work with (ha!), but I also understand that finding time for your family can be a bit tricky during your busy season.

The demands of recruiting, training, and coaching can be all-consuming, leaving little time for family and personal activities.

However, neglecting time with family can lead to isolation, relationship strain, and even burnout.

The good news is that with a few simple changes, you can manage your time better in the office and spend more quality time with your loved ones.

Let’s talk about three common mistakes and easy solutions to help you out.

Mistake 1: Not Setting Boundaries

One of the biggest challenges facing college coaches is the constant demand on their time. From early morning practices to late-night recruiting calls and being available to your team, the job can easily consume most of your waking hours. This can make it hard to set aside time for personal activities and family time. However, setting boundaries is essential to prevent work from taking over your personal life.

Solution 1: Set Clear Boundaries

A solution is to set clear boundaries and stick to them. Determine what times of the day are off-limits for work-related activities, and communicate these boundaries to your team, staff, and family. Consider blocking off specific time slots each day for family time and personal activities, and make these non-negotiable. By setting clear boundaries, you’ll create a better work-life balance and be more present in your family life.

Mistake 2: Not Prioritizing What Matters Most

Another common mistake college coaches make is not prioritizing what matters most. When work consumes most of your time, it can be easy to lose sight of what’s important in your personal life. However, neglecting your family and personal interests can lead to feelings of resentment and dissatisfaction.

Solution 2: Prioritize Based on Your Values

The solution is to prioritize based on your values. Take time to evaluate what’s important to you and what brings you joy. Make a list of your top priorities, such as spending time with family, exercising, or pursuing hobbies, and schedule these activities into your calendar 1st. Coach, if you are not putting these things in your schedule first, they will never happen. Prioritizing what matters most will help you maintain a healthy work-life balance and find greater meaning and fulfillment in your personal life.

Mistake 3: Not Delegating Tasks

Do you feel you need to do everything yourself? Taking on too much at work can lead to stress and leave little time for family and personal activities. Delegating tasks and asking for help can help reduce stress and allow you to focus on the things that matter most.

Solution 3: Delegate Tasks and Ask for Help

Learn to trust your assistant coaches and other staff members. Let them take on some responsibilities, so you have more time for your family. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your loved ones too. They’ll be happy to support you when they can.

Achieving a better work-life balance can be challenging, but it’s possible to have a successful career and spend quality time with your family.

You have to set boundaries, prioritize what matters most, and delegate tasks, you can manage your time better and enjoy the best of both worlds.

Obviously, your family is important.  Set these up and they will no doubt your family will appreciate the effort you put into being there for them.

It’s time to take control of your schedule, prioritize your values, and make positive changes for a happier and healthier life.

To your success,
